Round the clock support, without leaving home

Live-in care means a carer lives in the home with the person they support. They have their own room, they are part of the household's rhythm, and support is on hand through the day rather than arriving in slots.

For many families it is the alternative to a care home they were hoping existed. The house, the neighbours, the garden, the pets and the routine all stay exactly as they are. What changes is that someone capable is always nearby.

It suits couples especially well. One package of live-in care can support both people at once, in the home they share, which usually costs less than two residential placements and keeps the couple together.

What live-in care includes

  • The whole daily routine

Mornings, meals, afternoons and settling at night, shaped around how the household already runs.

  • Personal care

Respectful support with washing, dressing and continence care, delivered with the same privacy and dignity as our visiting service.

  • Medication support

Prompting and support with medication where this has been assessed and authorised within the care plan, with clear records kept.

  • Cooking and the household

Shopping, cooking proper meals, laundry and keeping the home clean, comfortable and safe.

  • Overnight reassurance

Someone in the house at night, so a fall, confusion or a bad night no longer goes unnoticed until morning.

  • Companionship and outings

Conversation, hobbies, appointments and getting out and about. A live-in carer shares the day, not just the tasks.

  • Support for couples

One carer supporting both partners at home, so nobody faces separate placements.

  • Family updates

With the person's consent, regular updates so family always know how things are going.

How we make a live-in match work

Matching comes first

Sharing a home is personal. We match on personality, language, culture and interests as well as care needs, and we listen if it does not feel right.

The carer's own space

A live-in carer needs a bedroom of their own and proper breaks. We plan cover for those breaks so support never simply stops.

A settling-in period

The first weeks are reviewed closely, and we stay in touch with the family while everyone finds their rhythm.

Continuity by design

We aim for one consistent carer with planned, familiar cover, rather than a rotating cast of strangers.

The person stays in charge

It is their home. How the day runs, what is cooked and who visits stay their decisions.

Honest about fit

Live-in care is not right for every home or every need. If we do not think it will work safely, we will say so and help you look at alternatives.

When families choose live-in care

  • Someone who needs support through the day and reassurance overnight, but wants to stay in their own home
  • A couple who want to stay together with one package of support
  • A person living with dementia for whom familiar surroundings matter enormously
  • Families weighing up residential care who would rather bring the care home instead
  • Someone returning from hospital who needs constant support while they recover
  • A family carer who has been sleeping with one ear open and cannot carry on alone

If you are comparing live-in care with a care home, we will talk you through both honestly, including the costs and what each looks like day to day.
